MacDonald at his best. Many of his books have comments on the events of the life of Christ, so it is obvious that he meditated and preached much on the Gospels. Here we get to see these thoughts organized around the text. These sermons are full of deep thought, like all of MacDonald's books.Unspoken Sermons was my favorite book until I found this one. These sermons are much easier to follow; they have less philosophical rabbit trails and stick closer to the biblical text.
My only complaint is that Scripture is never referenced in-text, and there are no footnotes. If anyone knows of a more modern edition with citations, I would like to know in a comment.

Sound Scottish thinking with a ponderous Victorian vocabulary (which C.S. Lewis tidied up quite nicely decades later.) Good and thoughtful read!
This book gives insight into the miracles of Jesus that go beyond even the meaning of the signs. MacDonald goes into what a miracle is and why it is called a miracle. He does this by moving our minds over to Jesus's point of view of these signs.
This was difficult to read because of its age, but I loved the content and the way it was organized. We used it for a Sunday School lesson and found it quite useful
George explains the symbolism and the why of how each miracle was significant to their traditions or else how insignificant.
Though the period language is sometimes difficult, it is worth th light it shines on the life of Christ. Many great insights..
These written papers are proof that God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son. And through those efforts, a vast of miracles were shown by Jesus as to whom He is. The miracles are broken down in laymen terms. I just loves Jesus. Well written.
The 100 old-language of George MacDonald is challenging to the quick-read mind of our century. But be patient; allow your comprehensive abilities to be stretched by spending time pouring over his brilliantly stated observations and you will be blessed by this long gone preacher-author as he expounds the miracles of our Savior and their eternal significance. It is well worth the extra time you will invest in not only getting to know Jesus better, but becoming a friend of one of his most expressive servants. Not simply a good read, but a heart changer.
