Classic. A must-read for men approaching 50.
Incredibly well written and enjoyable to read. The subtle description of the setting is refreshing, and very effective.
Loved the juxtaposition of the young and old man, story about regrets and what the true meaning of happiness is.
Just wonderful, Henry James at his most subtle and intelligent, an absolute pleasure to read. If I could write just a sentence as well as he writes his short stories I would be happy!
Typical of James, this is a story of a man haunted by his past, haunted by his inaction and cursed by his tendency to over analyze everything.
